Fa Yuen Street, "Sneaker Street"

Hong Kong has a huge sneaker community. We noticed as we walked around that boys and girls of all ages appreciated a funky pair of nike's or adidas. And I loved the fact that sneakers weren't just worn with athletic or casual attire. Girls that appeared dressed and ready to go out would accompany their outfit with nike's instead of heels. Guys would rock nike's with everything - jeans, dress pants, shorts, ties, etc. The colors and styles available in Hong Kong on a regular basis are unlike anything we can go to the mall or market and purchase. The only place we will see most of these shoes will be online. Other styles/color schemes aren't even available online, you would have to build them yourself. Below are just a few examples of the shoes we seen while in Hong Kong. Had it not been for the low camera battery, I would have atleast 20 more...it was just a fantastic couple blocks.

A favorite of mine...I wanted to buy these.

The inside of this store was incredibly small..about the size of a big bathroom, but I bet there were atleast 400-500 shoes in the store. All different colors and styles..
My favorites...
Jordan's..
The coolest shoe store in Hong Kong. Sara was a little more excited about the Jimmy Choo and Manolo Blahnik stores. I preferred the Nikes.
Lebron...thought it was cool jacket.
The New Balance color schemes..

I really liked these new balances...this is also a different style I don't remember seeing before. These are the NB420's, a retro running shoe. The color schemes pay homage to past US track teams. I looked online and they only offer one color design....this store had 6 different shoes..I would have bought a couple had I known that in advance..I can't tell you how many cases of these we saw. There was this mall that was in excess of 6 floors..(Sara and I rode the escalator up 6 floors, but each floor was almost the same, so we stopped. No telling how many floors actually existed) and they had a few other apparel shops, but predominantly shoes, floors and floors of cases and cases of shoes..

Here is video to try and shed some perspective on how many shoe stores existed on this one block. I didn't realize that the camera would stop recording after 10 minutes. Unfortunately, I could only cover that one block, but there were several streets that looked just like these.

  1. I am not a real big sneaker fan, but I have to say those are some really cool and unique shoes. How did you resist getting a pair??

  2. Love the color schemes...well on some of them anyway. Good thing Becca wasn't there! She would be broke within 15 minutes!
